Looking for a Fun and Fresh Easter Activity for Teens and Young Adults?
Surprise them with a nighttime flashlight egg hunt - a fun twist on a childhood favorite that brings the excitement back for everyone!
In our family, between my sisters and me, we have four teenagers and five young adults (ages 14 to 21). As you can imagine, the traditional egg hunts had lost their charm—these kids have outgrown racing for pastel plastic eggs filled with jelly beans. But we didn’t want to let go of the tradition entirely. So, a few years ago, we came up with a new idea, and it’s become one of our favorite Easter traditions ever since!
Enter: The Nighttime Flashlight Egg Hunt.
We started by filling hundreds of eggs with a mix of candy, money, mini gift cards, fidget toys, and fun little dollar store finds. It may sound like a lot, but we split the task between the three families, so it was super manageable.
Once dusk settled in, the adults (my husband, sisters, brothers-in-law, and I) headed to the backyard and hid the eggs really well—after all, our “egg hunters” are taller and more experienced now, so we had to get creative, hiding eggs both high and low.
When darkness fell, we handed out bags and flashlights to the teens and young adults and set a five-minute timer. The goal? Collect as many eggs as possible before time runs out. It was harder (and funnier) than it sounds—especially in the dark!
They had an absolute blast.
What started as a simple idea has now become one of the most anticipated parts of our Easter celebration. It brought back that childlike excitement—not just for the kids, but for us adults too!
If you’re celebrating Easter with tweens, teens, or young adults this year, give this nighttime egg hunt a try. Trust me, it’s a hit no matter what you put inside the eggs—and it might just become your new favorite family tradition too.
